Day 1 - Cambodia - Siam Reap

Day 1,

21st July 2011 (Thursday)

I waked up at 2.40am and received Susan’s sms that she was in Taxi and on the way to pick me up. I have to hurry, I just brushed my teeth and changed my cloth and get ready in the sitting hall. About 30 minutes taxi arrived and we went to Kam & Florence’s house to pick them up. We reached LCCT at 5.00am and checked in. Susan & I had our McDonald breakfast while Kam & Florence had their breakfast at OLD Town Café.

6.50am, we were in the flight
AK280 and departed to Siam Reap Airport. We reached Siam Reap at 8.25am (Cambodia’s time) and first time met out Tours Driver – Mr. Pete with his car No 2A-0641 Old type of Toyota Camry.

We were brought to Mother Home Inn instead of Mother Home Guest House. Then, Pete explained to us that Mother Home Guest House is full house, and we get our promotion price to stay in Mother Home Inn with the same price of Mother Home guest House. We were so lucky as Mother Home Inn was just operated in June and the open ceremony will be held on 1st Aug, 2011.

Four of us were welcomed by all the friendly and polite staffs with cold towel and welcome drink. Then we put our luggage into our rooms and started our journey at 9.15am.

As we were hungry, we asked Pete to send us for a simple meal, then he brought us to a local coffee shop to have our first Cambodia local food – Bread with Pata and Pork Noodle Soup, it cost us total USD7.

After taken our light meal, we departed to Angkor Thom (Thom = City), there was total 1/2 million of people staying in Angkor Thom 800 years ago. However, there are no more houses and villages in Angkor Thom now. It is now mainly for tourism. We bought our 3 days Ticket (USD40) to enter Angkor Thom.

Bayon Temple is the first temple that we visited. It is famous with the smiling faces on most of the walls. Then we visited The Terrace of the Elephants which the walls are full of carved elephants. The Terrace of Leper King was just beside to The Terrace of the Elephants, and it is a long walking path once you entered to the terrace and the walls were fully carved.

Pete drove us to Chao Say Tevoda which is located outside of Angkor Thom walls. In the temple, we can see hundreds years old of trees which grow on top of the building. Some of the trees are Gold and Silver in color which the trunks are huge and high.

We had our lunch at Angkor Reach Restaurant at 2.30pm their time with Amok Soup, Green Beans with Pork and Taufu with Green Beans. It cost us USD20.50 including 4 pcs fresh coconuts (USD1 each). It considered very expensive for us ;P.

After lunch, we walked across the road toward Angkor Wat (one of the 7 wonders!). =) It is a very nice view and we took a lot of photos here. When we entered the entrance, then we realized that there is still a lot of building inside there. Most of the Buddha’s heads were lost because were stolen due to their value. There were a lot of people queuing up to climb up to the top of the building. We did not queue up as we wish to go to Phnom Bakheng to see the sunset at 5.00pm. When we stepped from the entrance of Angkor Wat, the cloud was so dark, it was going to heavy rain. We were rush to Pete’s car, and yes it was heavy rain after we got into the car. We were driven to Mother Home Inn as we were not able to go anywhere in the heavy rain.

Pete came to fetch us at 7.30pm to Pub Street to have our dinner. We spent total USD10 for our meals. Florence and I ordered fried rice, Kam ordered Tom Yam and Susan ordered Pork with steam rice. Their fruits shake is nice! There is variety choices of fruits shake with USD0.75. Then we walked to old market to survey the price. We took ‘tuk-tuk’ back to Mother Home Inn at USD2 per trip.
